Settled since antiquity, Rize was a coastal stronghold in Roman and Byzantine times. In the Ottoman era, tea cultivation transformed the region. Today, Rize is a cultural mosaic shaped by Hemşin and Laz traditions.

At the foot of the Kaçkar Mountains lie hundreds of highland plateaus. Pokut, Ayder, Anzer, Ovit and Elevit are famous for their wooden houses, cloud seas and flower meadows. The tradition of transhumance is still alive today.

Rize is a year-round destination for outdoor sports: trekking, cycling, rafting in summer, snow trekking and skiing in winter. Glacial lakes, waterfalls and endemic plants make the region unique for nature lovers.

Tea cultivation, begun in the early 20th century, has become Rize's symbol. Today most of Türkiye's tea is produced here. Tea gardens stretch from the coast to the mountain slopes, shaping the landscape.

Explore the diverse districts of Rize, each offering unique experiences from coastal towns to mountain retreats.
